Hi All,

My wife and I are now applying for her extended spouse visa.

My wife pays National Insurance every month which equates to over £500 per year - does she still need to pay the £500 charge for the NHS when we apply for the extension spouse visa?

Also, we are hoping to go to Portugal which will be exactly 3 months after we apply for the extension visa. Would it be better to pay the extra for a one-day decision or is it likely to be done in time, giving us enough time to apply for the schengen visa as well?

Thanks all,
Ryan

You have to pay the NHS charge, you can't offset NICs against it.

As for timeframes, how long is a piece of string. The guidance says up to 6 months, although never heard it take that long. Ours was 6 weeks, but that was 18 months ago.

Thank you, we will pay the £500 for the next day service.

Daily light robbery if you ask me!
