but only in the UK - no other countries, its just politics to make the visa process more difficult and nothing to do with "safety and security"

The extra questions are in the miscellaneous section, the Telegraph newspaper printed them. You can only see the questions if you fill out the form though as you can't skip pages unfortunately to see. It asks you if you have a social network account y/n, if you do then you just write the name of it e.g. Facebook , you don't write your account details. The next question is a lot more difficult and is the same when applying for a British visa, it asks you 'how much will you be spending per day in Russia'? People spend different amounts, I suppose if you are on a 3 month private visa it would be around 500r a day on average. I have no idea what figure is acceptable or not!

Apart from the social network question, the new questions are the same if you are applying for a British visa.

yes they are, but the British (UK) visa application form is the same for ALL nationalities, we don't have different forms for different nationals. The questions asked are used in an integrated process applied to everyone applying for a UK visa.

As the Russian governemtn themselves have clearly stated, these questions are added because the UK government asks them of Russian visa applicants and not because the Russian government needs them.

This is either artificial grandstanding for the folks back home to show how "great" Russia will not be pushed around, or is deliberate irritation of UK applicants, like the bio-metric data collected by the Russian government of Russian visa applicants as a "punishment" for the UK governments view on Crimea and the associated sanctions.

Either way, its childish and pathetic and not befitting of a "great country" that Russia wants to be seen as.

Real Russia kindly sent me the new questions. They have been told that expenditure of £100 a day is okay. That means I would need £9,000 for my usual 90 day visa. Absolutely crazy!!

I wouldn't be able to spend £100 a day in the UK, and even if I had that kind of money what could I buy with it in Russia (with due respect)?
