Thats nice,i would much prefer the BBQ idea, but suppose we could do that after Chatsworth House somewhere...

Anyone have a big back garden locally?

We could always contact Mr & Mrs Chatsworth and see if they would let us have a BBQ in their garden. It should be big enough!

Had a look at Chatsworth website and they do allow official events to be held there, but they do ask for 12 months notice (maybe another year). They would also need info on type of event, number of people etc.

So I told them - Piss up with 4 people! Hope thats okay!

Well it looks like some people are having problems with their internet connection! Either that or the other half has caught you looking at things that you shouldn't and has banned you from using the internet.

Ther is still time to go and I know some people don't think that far ahead so I will continue over time to put this back into the light.

In the sun from today you can collect vouchers to try and get into Alton Towers for FREE, well for 2 adults and it's only £9.50 for kids.

I see from the response that everyone is very interested in a Great British day out. With only a few months to go maybe we should start getting to the finer details like what time will everyone be there. It is an all day event so if people wish to drop by at anytime then please do.
BTW this is not a scam, no-one is asking for any money upfront to travel there. It is FREE and open to anyone of any age and any level of experience.
For all those who are still looking for the trousers I am sure that your other half will allow you a little time off washing up duty you could even bring her/him along with you.

You sure you can make it? I'm a Yorkshireman born n bred n I'm tight, but the further north you go the tighter they get. When you get to Scotland they print their own funny money and pass it on to the tourists to get it out of the country lol.

It's been a couple of weeks now since the last update and I will keep bringing this to the front for all those newbies (and oldies that are still learning how to turn their comps on lol) that might want to come along.

The sun has been booked and it should be a lovely sunny day, however please do not blame me if it is not as Chatsworth House is in Derbyshire and I don't have total control over foreign weather.

If this goes well I have another idea for a meet but the weather would have to be better cos this one will last all weekend (Fri-Mon)! More on that to follow.

Even though I voted for Chatsworth, as its just down the road. If you buy anything at WHSmiths by Sunday you should be given a 2for1 voucher for theme parks in the UK including Alton Towers!

Stunning, beautiful, breathtaking!!! And that's just the Dowager Duchess of Devonshire!! Seriously though, Picturesque as it may be, convince me there's a days worth entertainment there! I mean, is there a beer tent for starters! Give me a day at the races any day. I might be able to get some free tickets for a race meeting.

Depends when you go to Chatsworth... go when the Country Fair is on and there is loads of entertainment and plenty of beer. Go on a warm summers day and take a dip in the river, ice cream in the gardens and stroll through the park.
Pick up a leaflet about Derbyshire's film locations and it currently has a 2for1 voucher on the back for Chatsworth valid until end 2009.

4th-6th September 2009

I used to go as a kid when my dad was working on one of the stands then later as a Venture Scout to help with cleaning the show ground.
Really good day out watching horse/dog type displays, rub shoulders with the haughty taughty's and collect as many free pens and badges as you can from the trade stands.....

If you cross reference the votes so far then we have about 11 couples (22 people) + any kids going. On a record side of things is that a record (so far) of people turning up for a meeting?

Don't be shy people it costs you NOTHING to cast your vote and have your say! The more the merrier!!!

Well so many of you have looked but not voted, guess you are the ones that wait until someone comes into power and then moan about them instead of using your vote to stop them in the first place!
Come on don't be shy lol
How many of you have ventured into the unknown taking a risk? Well why not take another! I know for many of you Derbyshire is like another world away and you may get lost on the way so here are some very simple directions.
I am sure that all of you know where the M1 is!
If you coming from the north travel south and if you are coming from the south travel north. It is that easy. You will come across a BIG brown sign that says CHATSWORTH HOUSE, just take the junction and follow the brown signs. It's not rocket science. Or are you all too scared to venture out in England!
With 1320 hits (including repeat offenders) it should make a very good day out or do all the silent ones suffer from agrophobia? Or are you just plain boring?
Come on have some backbone and tell your wife/husband/partner that you ARE going out for the day to visit a very nice place and meet a few people.
As they say "never give up without a fight", well I ain't and I will continue to pester until the time.

See you all soon!!!

Any thoughts on how we're all going to find each other? Ive only been to Chatsworth once before and from what I remember its a huge car parking lot on the grass out front. Anyone got a big Russian flag?

It's easy, when in the car park just get your other half to speak Russian to anyone that passes and whoever understands and replies must be there for the gathering lol
Or you could just look at my pics (and print if needs be) in the album near the time and you will see what we look like.

Thanks stuey. I know compared to y'all here i've let the side down a bit, but it's nice to know i can come along and 'just join in'. I wouldn't want to be an embarrassment and lower the tone by being a complete bore and having nothing in common with everyone else to talk about.
Besides i'm scammerless at the moment after just being dumped, so when i find another one today we wouldn't have known each other long enough for her to be granted a Visitor Visa in time.
Don't worry, i'll send her the money for the plane tickets and visa fee this time 'before' she asks!

I have spoken with my Dad and he said if we let him know in advance and around how many people (as long as not an event day) he'll sort out 2 for 1s at Bolsover Castle which is just off junction 29A of the M1, 10 or so miles from Chesterfield and 20 or so from Chatsworth if anyone wants it.

Also he has supplied me with a name of someone that works at Chatworth House and I'll write to him and see if they can do the same. He's said if we can find some kind of link between the Devonshires and Russia that would help! (Not too tedious such as the Duchess was a fim about the Devonshires, the Duchess was played by Kira Knightly and Kira supports Man Utd, Man Utd played in Moscow, which is in Russia!)
If people think its a good idea, i'll start writing a letter.

It was during the time of the 6th Duke of Devonshire, the famous "Duke of Devonshire Emerald" entered the collection of minerals of the Devonshire family, started by one of English Society's most remarkable women, Georgiana Spencer, the wife of William Cavendish, the 5th Duke of Devonshire, and the mother of the 6th Duke of Devonshire, who was also known as the "Bachelor Duke." The 6th Duke of Devonshire, was known by the name William George Spencer Cavendish, the name George Spencer taken from his mother's surname. This was a clear indication to show that he was the legitimate son of his father's legitimate wife, Georgiana Spencer, as his father also had several other illegitimate children by his mistresses. He became the Duke of Devonshire at the age of 21, when his father died in 1811. He inherited an enormous estate from his father, which included eight stately homes and 200,000 acres of land. He served as the Lord Chamberlain of the Household to King William IV. He traveled extensively, and among his friends were the Czar Nicholas I of Russia, Charles Dickens and Antonio Canova."
"In 1826, when Grand Duke Nicholas, ascended the Russian throne as Czar Nichoas I, the Duke of Devonshire, was appointed as Britain's Ambassador Extraordinary to Russia, a move that was expected to bring benefits to both countries. The 6th Duke like his mother also acquired quite a lot of mineral specimens, but unlike his mother's collection there is no proper catalogue of this collection in Chatsworth House."

I think that that shows a direct link between the Devonshire's, Chatsworth house and a Russian Czar!!!

Thats a brilliant find Stuey and much appreciated. Seems the 6th Duke and the Czar were big buddies. I'm going to see if the mineral collection is still in residence at Chatsworth as it will make the blag to get free tickets even better.

Addition: According to my dad it is there but maybe not on display and after talking with him its seems the 1st Duke's, also William Cavendish, cousin was the Duke of Newcastle and had residency at Bolsover Castle.
He also said those wanting to stay the night and have plenty of money, the current Duchess has recently refurbished the Cavendish Hotel which is just outside the main estate.

Are people happy with me writing a letter to the Chatsworth people to try and arrange some free tickets or 2for1s? Even if we get a few tickets at least the wifes/girlfriends can go an have a look around the house whilst the husband/boyfriends have a beer/have a chat/play cricket?

I don't think that anyone would be against it, we are all after saving money where possible.
It would be me looking round the house while the wife has the beer/vodka lol

Thanks

I think we are going to need a real show of hands here, for some myself included this is a day thats going to involve an overnight stay,so things need to be booked and so on.

If this turns out to be a damp squid like previous efforts, then we need to realise that now rather than when people have booked accomadation.....

9.5 weeks, now there was a film

Totally agree Nick - we would stay up there too so it would be good to know whether people are really going to go ahead this time.. Can a mod add this to the events calendar so that people can sign up for it?

PS yep, how could we forget that film!

I suggest that we need to know EXACTLY who will be coming by the end of play on the 19/6/09 which is only 4 weeks before the event and therfore it should mean that the people who are serious about going will be able to say for definate that they are going!
For now though I am 3 so we will start the count with 3, myself, the wife and doch!

Its was added but won't show on the forum page until closer to the date....I also made it 'sticky' sometime back but now with many forums you have to hit the 'polls and surveys' forum to see it.

Best bet is as Stuey is doing and keep posting to it so that it bumps it on the RR home page

T

I've changed the title as well so that it might attract a bit more interest for those that would noramlly just pass it by.

Masha and I are still up for the short drive too Chatsworth to meet up. Might also be able to get another two anglo russian couples to come up from the Derby area.

I tried writing to the people at the house to see if I could blag some free tickets but with no luck. That was about a month ago now, but worth a try.

If the weathers going to be like the last few days I suggest picnic, rounders and frisbee.

Also if people are still interested I can get my dad to do 2 for 1s at Bolsover Castle which is just of Jct 29A of the M1 about 25 miles from Chatsworth.

The wife asked me at the weekend "when are you going to take me to visit the house where they film Pride and Predjudice?"
Well here is the answer, but don't think she has read this thread yet lol

I will be bringing the picnic gear and I also have a frisbee but don't have the rounds gear.

To what I have read the opening time is 10:30am but I suggest we meet between say 9:30-10am in the car park area.

So they would come up from the Derby area to the Derby area lol. The more the merrier!!!

If your getting wet feet turn around lol

Question is, are you still coming?
Come the day if you are there then you will see how many turn up and how many are just voices in the crowd. I know that some would like to come but it is just too far for them to travel for the day. For you it's easy, just pop round the 25 and up the 1 n your just about there.

You know what some people are like, all mouth no action!

Anyway as before you have to give some people time to make their mind up but not too much time. The 19th June is getting closer and we need a show of hands by then. So let me start you off.

I am 3 (well 2 adults and 1 child).

So far that is 3 people going.

For all that can make their decision please add the the 3 and we will keep counting to see how many we have who are definately coming. If you can't make your mind up until it is closer because you wife (or husband) has you chained to the kitchen sink then why not put yourself down as a possible. Please add your name(s) as well.

We have every intention of being there, but we'll be heading back from holiday (in Glos.) on the Friday (10th) so we have to decide whether to stay an extra night somewhere close to Chatsworth, or go home and then back down again on the Saturday. And that will all depend on little Lord Nicholas!!!

I would love to hang out with you guys.. but I live in London, it's 3.5 hr drive for me. I will definitely be joininig IF I can find a travel buddy.. Is anyone from or around London going? I am happy to drive, but just don't want to drive there alone - a bit too far for me.

... and also, I am single, at a quick glance you are all couples! Are you incuding the "poor" singles or is it a families only event?

Dear forum members, please get in touch with me if you are going to the meeting on the 18th and want to travel together from London. I can take up to 4 in my car.

Diana

Gary, Tony was about to offer you to go with us, but it will be probably better for you to go via london

Nat, lol i know. My intelligence wouldn't impress anyone if i was to travel to Chatsworth via London when living in Leicester! Unless i had reason to.

ps. then again i've travelled everywhere else and got nowhere so why not! LOL.

I know that I said much earlier that Alla and me would love to meet everybody, sadly Alla will be back in Sakhalin and I will most probably be offshore (at work) .
So all that is left is to hope that the British Weather does not let everybody down and that the rain stays away and that the sun shines.

I see that people are slowing down the count. Come on ACUWA (+ friends) and Y-OLA, why not add yourselves to the numbers to give a show of hands? You are both local so don't have far to go to Chatsworth House so please add to the 8 people that have already said they will be there so that the others who have a bit further to travel can make up their minds by seeing the numbers increase to make it worth their journeys!

It's discount time!!!
I have just discovered the following discount online and I have tried it and it works. Look at the link for proof!
So come on people it is now 2for1!!!

https://kiosk.iristickets.co.uk/servlet/com.ts.app.util.ProcessorSer...

Chatsworth House 241

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Visit Chatsworth before November 09 and get 2 full priced combined house and garden tickets for the price of 1.
Go to www.chatsworth.org and enter the promotional code 'MovieMap1' at the checkout when you purchase your tickets on line.
With the code it makes adult tickets £5.20 each.

Adult £5.20
OAP/students £8.55
Child
Aged 4 to 16 inclusive, 3 and under are free £5.65

Family
2 adults and up to 3 children £27.00
That makes it £5.20, even cheaper than a childs ticket. I bet you can buy adult tickets for children.
It's well worth a visit, the house is magnificent and the gardens are absolutley lovely, the children love the cascade fountain. (Take towels)

There is also a farm and adventure playground which cost extra, but are sited so that if you don't tell people about them they won't know".

The link was working at the time, but just seen that it has timed out after 30 mins, so please read the following and do it this way.

http://www.chatsworth.org/book-online

go for house and garden, enter this code MovieMap1 in the "promotion code" box click on "proceed" and then choose the date 18/7/09. It will bring through the discounted tickets.

Ok guys we are now at that point, it is 4 weeks before the event and time to show some definate hands on who is going so that the peeps who are far away can decide whether it is worth their travel and possible overnight stay.
So here we have the definates so far. Even if you are just down the road can you please put you names down to add to the numbers that are already there. If you jump back a little you will see the link to the 2 for 1 adult tickets to house and garden!

3 - Stuart, Elena, Natasha!
3 - Ian, Olga, Nicholas!!
2- Duncan and Elen
3 - Pete, Irina & Alexander

I make that a total of 11 people or a small party. Please add your names and numbers so that we can see who is all mouth and no action.

think there is enough said...Pete see's it one way, I see certainly to an extent see it another with regards to that particular occassion. My initial comment was not intended to paint all with the same brush but directed in the direction of the 'little boy' (namely the tw*t) that served me, service was in fact not what he wanted to do or tried to do or ended up doing.....to be greated with an upwards nod of the head as much to say 'what do you want' and the word 'yeah' certainly contributed to my reply of his question 'is it your car sir ?' ...sorry it was not really directed at all of those in the industry (although we know he would not be the only one thats a tw*t), I know that there are just as many that give good service, if not always at the best pricing option for the customer, but hey I have long enough in retail to know how it goes.

Anyway Malcolm yet to see you put your name to the list ??? No doubt this will move south next year and all of those that live south of the midlands will want us northerners to support it. !!!!

3 - Ian, Olga, Nicholas!!
2- Duncan and Elen
3 - Pete, Irina & Alexander
5 -Andrew, Masha, Craig, Olga, Irina

Sorry for the slow reply but I can confirm there will be 5 from the Derby contingent with the possibility of one child as well.

Can I just confirm with out thumping, bumping or humping anyone on here what the actuall plans are?

Location: Chatsworth House and Gardens (tickets pre booked via discount code)
Time: 10am?
Date: 18th July
Meeting point: under a blue sky and Gazeebo

Also whats happening with lunch/entertainment?
I count over 20 now so is it bring your own or are we going to have one big picnic with people all chipping in (more fun)
As for entertainment - a spot of rounders or ultimate frisbee????

I would say to meet about 9:30-10am, that will give the late people a little extra time to follow the brown signs to get there. Other an that as above.
Stuey
p.s. Are there now enough going for you to add you names to the list? Nick? Benny?

Well if we go there straight off our holidays I can't guarantee anything home made, but I guess we could call in at the Farm shop and get a dozen Chatsworth Venison Pies, if that's okay?

No we start afresh at Chatsworth, but it does mean if you get another yellow there's no venison pie for you!

Don't know everybody elses feelings about it, but even though the 'one big picnic' sounds great in theory, will everyone only bring what they like anyway, and want to eat/drink that? and could it lead to a bit of 'we brought more than they did'?
Sorry to be a party pooper. just a thought.

Bring whatever you want, just bring extra. As you say I think that everyone will bring what they like to eat and drink. If people wish to share their wares then that is up to them but I am sure that all will not mind bringing a little extra to put into the pot to share. The "we brought more than they did" is a child thing and anyone who does think like that and say it is nothing more than a child.
So peeps what do you say? 1000 sausage rolls, 300 pork pies, 2 dozen quiches and 57 packets of crisps that no-one likes!
Personally when I go on a picnic I always take twice as much as will be eaten and drunk so from my point there will be plenty to go round.
So are we in agreeance that we will be having 1 big picnic without any arguements or disagreements?
What would be good is if someone has a stable paste up table or 2 to put it all on and does not mind bringing it (them)? Sorry I don't have one.
As for entertainment I am sure we will all put on a big show lol

Just wondering about the whole picnic table thing... not sure how happy the Duke would be with people skipping through the garden with tables in hand.

Does anyone know about admitance tickets for the gardens is it once your in, your in or can you nip back to the car and get your lunch etc once you've toured the house?

When we have done the whole bring to share thing before its always worked well as people always bring enough to feed an army though you do worry you will end up with 100 fairy cakes and a packet of walkers instead of a variety.

As it says on the site when you goto book your tickets "Fabulous rooms, unique treasures, new displays, audio tours, and unlimited access to the 105 acre garden, with waterworks, sculptures and maze"
Normally when you go to view such a house you pay once on the gate to get in and you can roam freely back and forth all day, anyway it says "unlimited access". If still in doubt either call them or ask on the day.
Ok maybe not the tables but picnic blankets all round.
Only 3 weeks to go!

With only 16 days left ain't it about time for everyone who is going that has not added their name to the list to add it so that we can work out how fat we are all going to get from all this lovely picnic food that we are bringing?

For any newcomers all are welcome if you want to come along. Who knows you may even have questions to ask that can be answered in person rather then in writing.

Can I suggest you summarize what is happening in a new thread with a relevant title to get rid of all the posts that are not relevant.

Put in there date, venue, activites, getting there, reason etc. and then we can make it sticky - you can always refer to this thread for background.
