Hi and Welcome Marc
Can't answer your question but sure someone will be able ....
I hope so. I'm in the very preliminary stages of organizing a train trip over the Silk Route (Brussels-Istanbul-
Tehran - Tashkent - Almaty - Urumqui - Xian. I know that I can reach the Turkmen border at Saracks, near
Mashhad, but as of there, I have not been able to find any reliable information... Even poezda.net does not
seem to have the turkmen train schedules anymore. They still have the cities in their database, but no trains.

I used Monkey Shrine (www.monkeyshrine.com) to help me with parts of my TransMongolian railway trip. Whilst it doesn't look like they offer Turkmenistan as standard, they may have some contacts or timetables for that area if you give them a shout.
I've also used Wild Frontiers (www.wildfrontiers.co.uk) to travel in parts of Central Asia. I didn't travel with them to Turkmenistan, but a Couple on my Silk Road trip I spoke with DID use them for a Tailormade/Bespoke extension to Turkmenistan. So, Wild Frontiers obviously have some contact with local agents in Turkmenistan - maybe they can help if you get in touch with them?

Location: Aberdeen & Moscow
My company recently sent a large shipment of mooring equipment from Aberdeen to Turkmenbassy with an estimated transit time time of 25 days - it took over 7 weeks! Good for us as the stuff was on hire when it left our gates, but the customer wasn't very chuffed. it was a tortuous rote to get there - road ,sea, river ship etc etc.
I'm not even sure they have any railways in Turkmenistan!
