I'm gathering that one was to arrive in Moscow on the Friday and leave on the Monday, the weekend would mean that Visa registration is *not* required under the 3-day rule.

Is this correct?

There's a return flight which I could catch (arrive Fri early am; leave Monday early am) which technically puts me in Russia for 73 hours..!

Correct, no need to register.

(Unless you are staying in a hotel in which the 'within one working day' rule might kick in, but then the hotel would do it anyway without any fuss.)
