HI All
Just back from Kazan yesterday.
So just to save people a wasted journey for Registration of your place of stay they have moved the office for UK Citizens and some other countries to ESH URAM 8, Building 2.
It is opposite the larger building (you will see migrant workers outside this larger building).
The entrance is in a side street you will see curved green roof covers for bicycles/smokers(?) in the fenced front garden which is on Tartarstan Street (as is the larger buiding).
You get off the westward bound 31 bus from Gorky OR from the previous office in Ostrovskogo street. Bus fare is 18 Roubles. Ask for 'old aquatic stop'.

You will need photo copies of your passport main details, visa and landing card (I have the 3 month new spouse visa).
Also copies of your sponsors/spouse relevent internal passport main details and propiska page.

You can get copies there but you are charged a small fee. The person who does this is busy seeing people about other issues and has a portable copier so its best to bring your own copies otherwise you will queue.
This office is in the first waiting room on the left this is a good place to complete the double sided registration forms best to get your sponsor to complete this in Russian. OR complete this form on their computor which may be quicker. The office where you complete this form is a separate office and you should not have to queue (as there is a small normally empty waiting room his office is on the right).
HE said we also had upto 7 days to register.
We were not charged and you do not have to be unregistered either so thats an improvement.
This may be the norm for all registration offices as they seem to be going through some restructuring Having separate offices for separate counties/regions .
(I Have also posted this on Russia World forum site)
Hope this helps
Regards
Kevin W

Sounds like it might just be the new family visit visa which IIRC is valid for 3 months (still only single entry though).

Hopefully Kevin will come back on here to enlighten us further
