My wife is in the process of changing passports and she will be changing her international passport soon. However, there are two variants - 5 year non-biometric passport and a 10 year biometric passport.

Will there be any issues applying for a spouse visa using a 5 year non-biometric passport?

The main issues are that many countries now prefer or give preferential treatment to applicants who hold bio-metric passports - why would you want a shorter, less secure, less usable non-biometric passport?

Applying for a 10 year passport will probably set us back around 1-2 months after already waiting a significant time to be together. Not to mention that the office that my wife needs to attend to is in a very awkward location with difficult people who work there so ideally a 5 year passport is the best option for us.
