Privet!

I am once again travelling to Russia on 12th of Feb to visit the Mrs and family, and was wondering if anyone off here is out there then or living around the area I am off to? which is Kaluga, about 3 hours from the mighty Moscow? I would love to meet up for a friendly drink or ten with a fellow Brit as last time I went I was a complete alien! Would be nice.

Cheers.

Where is is the Hero City of Volgograd (aka Stalingrad)!?!?!

Dont worry, many people don't know that it is the worlds longest city at the junction of the Volga, Don and Ahtuba rivers - famous for its pure nature, active industry, home to Europes largest Dam, the mighty Mamyef Kurgin (the worlds largest free standing statue) and within spitting distance of both the Ukraine, Kazakhstan and the Cacus region - if you look on a map we are about 1,000 km south of Moscow - 1.3 hour flight or 18 hours on the train - just follow the volga down towards the caspian and you will find us.

Blimey, sounds a nice place Chris! how long you lived there mate? Could you tell me how easy is it for a Brit to buy some land in the Federation if at all possible?.... found a bargain where the Mrs lives and they are spending alot of cash making posh shopping centres, hotels etc etc for us 'Tourists'..comes with a house ready to be demolished and a nice shiny one built, electrics, water, sewage etc etc. Two of her cousins are buliders and they told me if we paid for materials they will build it as they owe my Mrs family a few 'favours'.

Cheers for the map Rich, I'm still none the wiser, I'll get me world atlas out this evening and have a scout round!

Kaliningrad under the russians from 1945, Konigsberg, Prussia under ze germans. It's between Poland & Lithuania, used to be the base of the Russian Western Fleet...only ice free baltic port or so they say
