Random quote: I have to admit that I don't even try to speak Russian, though I understand it perfectly. I wouldn't want to insult the language by testing out my pronunciations - Lana Wood

I wouldn't use them but some people might find it useful.

Please be aware, that several airline companies are cutting flights, size of aircraft etc on Russian routes.

BA for example are cutting their big planes with 1st class down to 2 a week, only mon and fri, the rest of the flights are planned to be with A319/321's..

I have read that Swissair, Finnair, Lufthansa, air france, transaero, klm to name but a few are reducing aircraft sizes/cutting flights from October..

I think that you can fly direct from Lon to St p's...

Would that not be more convenient for you??

My wife and daughter flew to SPb from Heathrow at the weekend using SAS with a stopover in Stockholm which was the cheapest deal when she booked 3 weeks ago. Looking at October dates, SAS are currently charging ~£180 return on the same route which is a ~6 hour journey (includes a ~2.5 hour stopover in Sweden).

Lufthansa are doing Birmingham to SPb for the same sort of price with a stopover in Germany. The flight is slightly longer at ~8 hours but if you consider the driving time from Birmingham to London then both SAS and Lufthansa will end up taking pretty the same overall time.

The only airline who fly direct from Heathrow to SPb these days is BA but all the cheap seats usually go pretty quick so you need to book well in advance to get any sort of a decent price. Currently they have a handful of return tickets left in October for ~£250 on that particular route but they're unlikely to last much longer at that price.

does anyone have up to date on Moscow to the UK? don't relish a trip to London but looking to bring step son in during 14-20 Sept....

these things are in flux, not much money in Russia for tourism and not much need to tour in Russia either at the moment I guess.

thanks in advance

Easyjet are pulling out of Russia completely by March. Aeroflot has taken a 75% share in Transaero and their prices have gone up already. The only alternative is BA which worked out cheaper for me than Easyjet.

It's not a rumour as its been all over the news recently. I've only used Easyjet twice for trips to Russia as they are not cheap. However, I did make a mistake since Easyjet will still be operating but only 1 flight a day from March 30th.

Thanks, I thought I was mistaken before. Losing Easyjet is no great loss for me but the price hike will be a pain for other flights.
